TEWKSBURY: John P. Vieira, Jr., age 56, a resident of Tewksbury for over 30 years, passed away unexpectedly at the Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara J. (Smolski) Vieira, with whom he celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on July 17, 2013.
Born in Brockton on December 19, 1956, he was the son of the late John P. Vieira, Sr. and the late Cecelia (Santos-Fortinha) Vieira.
John was raised in Easton, Mass, attended Easton schools and graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1975. Following graduation, he attended Salem State College, where he received his Bachelors Degree.
An avid golfer, John was a longtime member of the Poquoy Brook Golf Club in Lakeville.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by three children, John P. Vieira, III, Lauren A. Vieira, and Lindsey N. Vieira all of Tewksbury; five sisters, Joan Grider and her late husband Jack of Bellingham, Carol Lanigan and her late husband Tom of Gray, ME, Sheila Passehl and her husband Dennis of Florida, Paula Concannon and her husband Paul of Wilmington, and Joyce Nardone and her husband Keith of Shrewsbury; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adam P. and Constance Smolski of Burlington; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Karen Smolski of Burlington; also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund or Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
