John Steve Ivanits, III, 71, of Pine Lane passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013 in his home. He leaves his wife Bettymae (Barnes) Ivanits to whom he would have been married 50 years on October 19th, their children; Sherri Ivanits Auten and her husband Jeff of South Carolina, Loralee Ivanits of Worcester, and John S. Ivanits, IV and his wife Heather of Charlton,and Renee Moriarty of Sturbridge, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grand-daughters, 2 sisters; Patricia Ryker of Michigan and Barbara Moore of Illinois and several nieces and nephews. John was born in East Orange, New Jersey, son of John S. and Elma (Keller) Ivanits, Jr. and has lived in Charlton many years. He was an executive chef and built and operated several restaurants. He also served in the U. S. Army during the beginning part of the Vietnam War.
John was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Southbridge, a member of the Oxford American Legion Post # 58, the Patriot Guard, the Gold-Wing Club, he was also a New York Yankees fan and a Patriots fan, enjoyed fishing, cooking, yard work , taking a ride on his “Trike”, and really enjoyed his family, and his grandchildren who were special to him. There are no calling hours.
The Funeral will be Saturday, October 19, 2013 with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 263 Hamilton St., in Southbridge (Please meet at the Church), Burial with Military Honors will follow at West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to: The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd., Ashford, CT. 06278.
