Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Jeannette R. (Methe) Lapan, 93, a longtime resident of the Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, October 11, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Overlook at Northampton surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on July 12, 1920, a beloved daughter of the late Isaie N. and Aline A. (Girouard) Methe. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and the former Bay Path Institute, both in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was last employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at the former A & P Federal Credit Union and previously worked at the former Franco American Credit Union and Methe’s Feed & Grain Store, all in Springfield. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Albert C. Lapan who was Called Home on July 29, 1996. They were married on May 31, 1948 at the former Saint Joseph Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers and her sister, Gerard Methe, Laurent Methe, and Lillian Pilon. She leaves her loving sons, Albert G. Lapan and his wife, Charlene, of Westhampton, and David P. Lapan and his companion, Marie Menard, of Springfield; her six cherished grandchildren, Madeleine Manley and her husband, Kevin, Janine Yawson and her husband, Sammy, Blayne Lapan, Fallon Lapan, Kimberly Lapan, and Melissa Williams and her husband, Joseph; her two cherished great-granddaughters, Morgan and Kaelyn Manley;her dear brother, Normand Methe and his wife, Lorraine, of West Dennis, MA; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Thursday morning, October 17, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
