Rebecca Elizabeth (Betty) Rainwater

CHARLOTTE, NC - Rebecca Elizabeth Rainwater entered into rest at Legacy Heights Monday, October 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Bernard Rainwater.

Mrs. Rainwater was born on November 2, 1924 in Augusta where she lived most of her life. Betty was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, was active in the Mary Culler White Circle, the Happy Club and enjoyed volunteering with Love-A-Child. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a strong faith in God. Betty will be dearly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. Cooking, gardening and spending time with family were a few of her favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Gay (Mickey) of Augusta, her son, Ken Rainwater (Carole) of Charlotte, NC, her step-brother, “Bubba” Dukes (Clara) of Waynesboro and two half sisters, Jolee Andrews and Janel O'Dell (John) of Hephzibah. Betty was blessed with four grandchildren, Sherri Gosneigh, Phil Gay (Terri), Ben Rainwater (Erin) and Mark Rainwater (Sarah), and with eight great grandchildren, Michael, Shane, Maggie, Jacob, Greyson, Will, Jonathan and Emily.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 12 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA with a graveside service officiated by Rev. Chuck Hunt following at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2:30 P.M.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Mrs. Rainwater's caregiver, Mary Overstreet, the staff at Legacy Heights and Hospice Charlotte Region for their care, compassion and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
