Obituary

DOUGHERTY, Thomas F. 85 of Pocasset passed away peacefully on October 11, 2013. He was the son of the late Gertrude and Joseph Dougherty of Charlestown and Falmouth. He is the beloved husband of Myrle Ann (Roberts) Dougherty. Devoted father of Thomas “TD” and his wife Doreen, Joseph and his wife Janet all of West Roxbury. He was a loving brother of the late Gertrude “Trudy” DeMello of Falmouth, Joseph A. of Manhattan Beach CA, the late Paul of Milford Conn, William “Billy” of Boston, Jack of Providence and Kevin of Williamstown. He was “Sparky” to his five grandchildren Ryan, Paige, Patrick, Brooke and Maren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Born in Boston, Tom graduated from Newton High School in 1947. He served in the USMC First Marine Division from 1947-1951, During the Korean War he fought in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir and the Battle of Inchon. Following his service in the Marines, Tom moved to Brookline and served in the Department of Engineering for over 37 years. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans, Elks Post 1548 and an active life member of the Aptucxet VFW Post 5988. Visiting hours will be held at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St. West Roxbury, Tuesday, Oct 15th from 4-8pm. Relatives and friends invited. Funeral Mass in St. John The Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd., Pocasset on Wednesday, Oct 16th at 11 o’clock. Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45pm.
