N. GROSVENORDALE, CT - Edmund D. Hryzan, Sr., 70, died on his own terms Tuesday, October 9, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra (Golembiewski) Hryzan; a son, Edmund D. Hryzan, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Lakeville, MA; 2 daughters, Michele Potter and her husband Troy of North Grosvenordale and Christine Ayotte and her husband Marc of Hampton, CT; and seven grandchildren: Sophie, Jacob, Emma & Dominic Edmund Hryzan, Morgan Potter, Trey & Maxim Edmund Ayotte.
He was born and raised in Webster, Massachusetts and retired from Cranston Print Works in Cranston, RI. He went on to work at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT.
A loving husband, father and grandfather – his passion was his family. Ed was happiest on the sideline at his children or grandchildren’s sporting events. If it was basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, swimming or karate – he was there. But it was never about the awards, ribbons or trophies - it was always about family. He would always dig into his pocket for his so-called ‘performance bonuses’ for the kids.
He loved basketball, UConn & March Madness. He loved the Red Sox and Arby’s. Long before Facebook & Twitter he was your sports ticker. He always knew the score of every game. Those that knew him know he hated Walmart.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 1:00PM at the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA. A calling period will be held from 12 noon until the service begins. He’ll be buried the way he lived, when the family is good and ready.
He bought flowers every week for his wife, Sandy, even though he was allergic to them. In lieu of flowers and since he loved sports, donations can be made in his name to the athletic programs at St. James School, 120 Water Street, Danielson, CT or to Apponequet High School Athletic Booster Club, 100 Howland Road, Lakeville, MA 02347 or to St. Joseph School, Main Street, PO Box 897, North Grosvenordale, CT.
