Robert D. Caron 93, of Lambert Ave. died Saturday at home. He was the husband of Estelle (Gauvin) Caron. Mr. and Mrs. Caron would have celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on October 12, 2013. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Philias and Fabiola (Drapeau) Caron. For most of his life, Robert worked as a manager for several area businesses including, City Hardware, Pinault’s Hardware, Lambert and Lavallee Hardware and Cumberland Farms. He also worked as a cook at Kay’s Restaurant, retiring twenty three years ago. Robert was a WWII Army Veteran and served with the 3564 Quartermaster Truck Battalion in New Caledonia. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon, and the American Theatre Service Ribbon. He was a Charter Member of the AMVETS Post # 12, a member of the American Legion and St. Joseph Sr. Citizens Club. Robert deeply loved and was devoted to his family.
Besides his wife he leaves his son and caregiver, Robert Caron of Woonsocket, three daughters, Colleen Lee Fontaine of Haverhill, NH, Phyllis Ann Boisvert of Lindale, TX, and Lisa L. Payne of Old Monroe, MO, a brother, Roger Caron of Woonsocket, two sisters, Georgette Vermette, of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and Pauline Vermette of Woonsocket, seven grandchildren, Shauna Arpin, Stacey Fontaine, Misty Mihai, Michaela Boisvert, Joel, Kalene, and Josiah Payne, and three great-grandchildren, Domenic and Natalia Mihai and Ronald Arpin IV. He was also the brother of the late Normand, and Mariette Caron, Violet Boucher, Estelle Lucchesi, and Rita Polek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. The family will receive guests prior to Mass, at 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Cupboard, 1200 Mendon Rd. Woonsocket, RI 02895 in his memory would be appreciated.
