LAKEVILLE — Bernice S. (Plant) Tripp, age 101, of New Bedford, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Island Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeville.
The wife of the late Russell S. Tripp, she was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Ernest and Roslyn (Borden) Plant and lived in the New Bedford community all of her life.
For many years she was employed at J. I. Paulding Co. and in later years at the N.B. Standard Times.
A former member of St. Paul's Methodist Church, she attended the East Freetown Christian Congregational Church.
Bernice was an active member of the Dartmouth Women's Club and very involved in the local Relay for Life walk for cancer. She was the lead survivor for the Relay for Life at their and her 100th celebration. She was a volunteer worker at local polls at election time, and she also enjoyed gardening, sewing, camping, and travelling.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Island Terrace Nursing Home for their care, kindness and concern for Bernice's well being.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard F. Allen of Dartmouth; and her daughter, Judith M. Orlowski of East Freetown; her grandchildren, Cara O'Brien and Sarah Allen, Amber and Trevor Orlowski; and her great-grandchildren, Sean and Elizabeth O'Brien and Sophie Bernice LaMere.
A graveside service for Bernice will take place on Saturday, October 5th at 10 A.M. in Acushnet Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Ma.
