Obituary

Irene A. (Salvo) Hamilton, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading following a brief illness. She was 95 years old.

Irene was born in Boston on October, 13, 1917, a daughter of the late Charles Salvo and May (Lambi) Salvo. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system, and graduated from Charlestown High School. Irene was a homemaker whose main interests in life were her family and oil painting.

Irene is the beloved wife of the late Edward "Hammy" Hamilton. She is the devoted mother of Loretta (Orpen) Woods and her late husband John "Buster" Woods of Charlestown, Joan (Orpen) Joyce and her husband John of Tewksbury, and Irene "Bunny" (Hamilton) Fratalia and her husband Vincent of Tewksbury. Irene is the loving Nana of 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She is the loving sister of Josephine LaBlanc of Weymouth and the late Sally Smith, Geraldine Lawless, Donald Wilson, and Charles Salvo. She is also the beloved sister-in-law of the late Marion Rochford.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Irene's Funeral Service on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. There are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make memorial donations in Irene's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
