Whitman – Josephine M. (Burns) Yanuss 89 of Whitman, died Monday September 30th in the Colony Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Abington, after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Quentin W. Yanuss.
Born in Brockton on June 25,1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (O’Rourke) Burns and sister of the late Margaret Luddy, the late twin of brother Joseph Burns and the late William Burns.
Josie is survived by her children, Ellen Heard of New York, William Yanuss and his wife Marcia of Washington, Susan DaSilva and her husband John of Whitman, Anne Goehring and her husband Michael of California and Jean Jacob and her husband Ralph of Whitman; also 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Josie has been a lifelong resident of Whitman. She worked as a telephone operator for many years, before her career as a librarian for the Whitman Middle School.
She was a lifetime member of the Whitman Mother’s Club, a member of the Whitman Women’s Sodality, a member of the Whitman V.F.W. Post 697 Women’s Auxiliary. Josie enjoyed being a town official and enjoyed working the town elections.
Josie was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren most of all.
Her services will be held Saturday October 5 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday October 4 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
