FRAMINGHAM: Alfred Ernst Feuersanger, 86, died peacefully in the care and comfort of his family at his residence on Saturday evening, September 28, 2013 following a brief illness.
He was born in Ragnit, East Prussia on July 29, 1927 the son of the late Ernst Louis Feuersanger and Anna Margarete (Papendick) Feuersanger.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Mary E. (Stroetgen) Feuersanger of Framingham. Loving father of Jeane H. Orme of Marstons Mills; Marguerite L. Feuersanger and her husband John A. Williamson of Portland, OR; Robert A. Feuersanger and his wife Winn K. Feuersanger of Westford; Eric W. Feuersanger of Framingham and Teresa A. Richardson and her husband T. Scott Richardson of Hudson. Cherished grandfather of Robert, Timothy and Erin Orme; Ian Williamson; Julia, Mary and Robert Feuersanger; Jonathan, William and Brooke Feuersanger; Benjamin and Madeline Richardson. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Siegfried L. Feuersanger.
Alfred spent his formative years in Germany and graduated from the University of Aachen where he received his undergraduate degree. He came to the United States in the early 1950’s and received his Masters in Physics from Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He became an American citizen and from 1953 until 1955 he served his country proudly in the United States Army Signal Corp. He retired in 1993 after a dedicated career of 35 years as a Research Physicist with Sylvania, later becoming GTE and currently Verizon. He was a leading experimental physicist in the field of thin film electronic components and was awarded seventeen patents.
In retirement he continued to take pleasure in solving math and science problems. He enjoyed sailing and tennis, but had a passion for airplanes, which he shared with his brother and son. He loved to cook and share meals with family. Alfred was dedicated to his faith and he and his wife spent many hours in the constant vigil at Saint Anselm Church in Sudbury so that it would remain open for all of its parishioners. His greatest enduring love was for his wife and family. He was devoted to all his grandchildren and supported them through all of life’s celebrations; he particularly liked cheering at his grandsons’ hockey games. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
