Obituary

Herman O. Lyle, Sr., 88, of Tifton died Saturday, September 28, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Douglas Reddick will officiate, entombment to follow at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Born to Hugh Freeman Lyle and Leila Dial Lyle on October 24, 1924 in Watkinsville, Mr. Lyle was the oldest of four children. Mr. Lyle served in the United States Navy during WWII. In 1952, he graduated law school and joined the FBI as a Special Agent. He was a registered member of the Georgia Bar for 61 years. He married his loving wife, Sally Ammons Lyle, on August 1, 1947 and they lived together in the Midwest until relocating to Georgia in 1974. He was an active member of the New River Baptist Church and a passionate sports enthusiast. Mr. Lyle also held membership in the American Legion, the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Mr. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Ashe.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Ammons Lyle of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Herman O. Lyle, Jr. and wife Valerie of Marion, Illinois and James C. Lyle and wife Beverly of Mandeville, Louisiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Lyle Keeley and husband James of Jacksonville, Florida and Jan Stinson and husband Bobby of Tifton; two sisters, Shirley Higgins of Atlanta and Geraldine Mathis of Athens; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his care-giver and special family friend, Brenda Moorman.
