Agler, Robert D. of Hingham MA, died peacefully just shy of his 90th birthday on Thursday, September 26 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was the devoted husband of 66 years to Sylvia P. (Peters) Agler; loving father of 3 children; Alison A. McSweeney and her husband Edward of Halifax; Timothy B. Agler of Irvine, CA; and Leigh A. Agler of Seattle, WA.; cherished grandfather of Ian McSweeney and his wife Elizabeth of Weare, NH; Marney Baker and her husband Harley or Lowell, MA; and Ross McSweeney and his wife Kelly of Littleton, MA.. Great grandpa Bob was enchanted and delighted by his 4 great-grandchildren Dylan, Bridger, Audrey and Julia.
Bob was the son of the late Olive Gates and Denver Agler of Warren, Ohio. He served with the submarine service of the Navy and was then chosen for the B12 program to attend Yale and Swarthmore College where he earned his degree in civil and sanitary engineering. At Swarthmore, he met and married the love of his life, Sylvia Peters. The couple raised their family in Hingham while he worked in the Boston area. They moved to Amherst NH and had recently returned to Hingham, having lived 30 years in Hingham and 30 years in Amherst. He will forever be remembered as a kind, gentle and generous man to his family, friends and community. His family wanted to note that he died with his favorite socks on! A private ceremony will be held at St John’s Church in Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to the Hingham Land Conservation Trust, P.O.
