Obituary


Alice F. (Maliff) DeCouto, age 78, of North Easton and Brewster, died peacefully September 25, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late James E. DeCouto. Alice was born and raised in North Easton, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary L. (McCarthy) Maliff. She was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, class of 1952 and Springfield College, class of 1956. For over 26 years Alice worked for the Easton Public School Department as a Physical Education teacher. Alice was an extremely gifted athlete earning 10 varsity letters in 4 years and was proudly inducted into the Oliver Ames Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. She was co-founder of Camp DeVal in North Easton, which ran from 1960-1968 at Flyaway Pond. She was the founder and co-conspirator with her friend Patsy, of the Easton Van Gang. She loved to watch sports and travel , but most of all Alice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her life long (Camp DeVal ) motto was “Fun All The Way”
Alice was the mother of Catherine M. Svarczkopf of South Yarmouth, James E. DeCouto, Jr. of Whitman and Thomas A. DeCouto and his wife Lynn of North Easton; grandmother of Elane M Smith, Thomas A. Fontes, Lauren E. DeCouto, Lisa M. Svarczkopf, Kristen M. DeCouto, Tyler A. DeCouto and Abbey N. DeCouto; and great grandmother of Amaya C. Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and was the sister of the late Robert Maliff.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday 3-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Tuesday at 9:30am for a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church, North Easton at 10:30am. Burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
