Obituary

Alfred E. Gauthier, 85, of New Bedford died suddenly on Saturday September 21, 2013. He was the husband of Florence P. (Haskell) Gauthier and the late Margaret (Sameiro) Gauthier.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph L. Gauthier and Marion (Hammersmith) Sylvia, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Gauthier was formerly employed as a machinist at U.S. Ringbinder until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed baseball, fishing, hunting, and going to Twin Rivers.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Alfred E. Gauthier, Jr. of Somerset and Steven Joseph Gauthier of New Bedford; four stepchildren, Donna Leonardo of Marion, Brenda Ambrose of Wareham, Joseph Albert of Fairhaven, and August Albert of Vermont; two brothers, Joseph Gauthier and Earle Gauthier, both of New Bedford; two sisters, Joan Mello of East Freetown and Marion Weedall of Florida; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Norma Mello.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
