Rose L. Mitchell, 75, of Route 118, Dorchester died at her residence September 12, 2004 after a sudden illness. She was born in Lincoln NH on March 13, 1929, the daughter of Albert Jarvis and Viola M. Horner. She was raised in Lincoln and Laconia and lived for many years in Laconia prior to relocating to Dorchester in 1977.
In her early adult years she had been employed at the Belknap Mill and also at Kingsman Organ Co. She was employed as a waitress, alongside her mother, at Earl’s Diner. In 1977, Rose and her husband, Ernest Mitchell Jr. purchased the Campers Rest Restaurant in Dorchester and operated it until 1995.
The popular restaurant was known as Rosie’s by the local folk and served many regular customers from as far away as Lebanon and Canaan. In retirement, Rose worked part time at the Dunkin Donuts shop in Plymouth.
Her husband Ernest Mitchell Jr. died in 1990. In addition, she was pre-deceasedby two sisters, Eva Goupil in April 1998 and Anna Belanger in March 2003.
Family members include her son, Verne Avery of Dorchester; two daughters, Carole Goss of Laconia and Bonnie Taylor of Campton; four grandchildren, Sara Goss, Kristy Taylor, Charlene Pratt and Jason Corbin; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Heath of Gilford, Sandra Tibbetts of Meredith and Donna Swain of Laconia; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial reception was held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia Thursday from 7 to 9 PM. A graveside committal service was held Friday at 11 AM in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Robert Farah officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia NH 03246. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the funeral directors.
