Manchester – Vasilike (Margomenos) Isaak, 85, of Manchester, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at her home after a period of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Manchester and daughter of the late Nicholas Margomenos & Kichia (Tsetseranos) Margomenos, she graduated from Youngsville School and Manchester High School Central, Class of 1946.
Affectionately referred to as “Margo” or “Bessie,” she was married for 31 years to the late Andrew C. Isaak, prominent New Hampshire architect and pillar of the Greater Manchester community.
Margo volunteered for many years with the Sacred Heart Hospital Associates in the hospital gift shop and the Manchester High School Central Alumni Network, assisting with major events including the Sesquicentennial Celebration and numerous Hall of Fame banquets. She was also an annual volunteer at the Glendi Greek Festival at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester before her health began to decline.
She was known to her family and friends as an avid card player, a lover of gardening and Greek cooking, a bargain shopper, a competitive bingo player, a frequent patron of the Puritan Backroom Restaurant and Merrimack Restaurant (which closed in 2008). She loved attending the sporting events of her grandchildren and spending time at the family’s summer home at Jenness Beach in Rye.
Bessie is survived by her sister, Helen (Margomenos) Kehas and her husband Dr. Chris D. Kehas of Manchester; two daughters, Andrea (Isaak) Elliot of Manchester and Stephanie (Isaak) Ricchi and her husband Patrick of Pittsfield, MA; four grandchildren, Nicole Yanna Vailas and Zachery Andrew Elliot of Manchester, Christina Marie Dooley and Charles Joseph Dooley, III of Pittsfield, MA; dear friends, Joe and Pauline Poulos, Frank Keefe, Phil and Sophie Plentzas, Koni and Nelson Farr, Maria Saitas, and Fanny Canotas, all of Manchester, David Fletcher of Somerville, MA, and Tim and Katherine Preston of Santa Ana, CA. She also touched the lives of numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Manchester and across the country. The family would also like to thank Michael Murphy, III, MD, Marc Semigran, MD and Dottie Sullivan, ARNP, from the Heart Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, particularly Judy Geaghan, RN, for their constant care and support.
The funeral was held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover Street in Manchester. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
