Obituary

Louis Anthony Marseilles, 92, of 7 Bruggemann Court, Mystic, a retired carpenter and Mystic legend, died Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Stephanie (Marszalek) Marseilles whom he married in Canaan, NH on August 23, 1938.

Mr. Marseilles was born in Mystic on April 16, 1912 the third of eight children to Anthony and Emilie (Frensch) Marseilles.He was educated in Stonington schools and was a lifelong resident of the town. As a young man, he completed correspondence courses in radio repair and operated his own radio repair business during World War II.

He was a founding member of the former Hoxie Ambulance Service and was involved in many capacities in that Service including Secretary. He was also a member of the BF Hoxie Engine Co. #1 for more than 68 years. He was a former member of the Groton Elks, St. Patrick’s Club, and past president of the Society Frohsinn, and was honored for his many contributions to the Hugo Simonelli VFW Post in Mystic. He was a founding member of “The Over the Hill Builders”. He also worked at the former Rossie Velvet Mill, Templetone, the Stonington Velvet Mill, Cottrell Lumber Co, and was a self employed house builder and handyman. He was an avid reader, gardener, investor, and cribbage player.

In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Marseilles Yacovino of . Kingstown, RI; a son, Louis Marseilles Jr. of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Mary Botelle of Hope Valley RI, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a world made better by his presence.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Friday at 11am. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
