Obituary

NATICK: Morrill Joseph “Joe” Day, died peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2013, two days after his 89th birthday, at Eliot Center for Health & Rehab in Natick. He was the devoted husband of the late Phyllis G. (Taillon) Day for 59 years.

Born in Northbridge, a son of the late Morrill F. and Estelle B. (Hanley) Day, he was raised and educated in Bangor, Maine. Joe studied drafting in Worcester for a year after high school before joining the Navy. He served as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the Pacific and American Theatres until the end of World War II.

Joe had a long career as a mechanical engineer employed with Dynamac of Natick and later, Marlborough. He married Phyllis in 1950 and the couple lived for a time in Leicester prior to settling in Natick in 1953. He and Phyllis loved entertaining and visiting with family and friends. Cookouts and clambakes were events to look forward to, and spending time at their Onset Bay getaway was special. Joe also enjoyed playing golf and bowling with a work league.

Predeceased by Phyllis in 2009, he is survived by three sons, Bradley J. Day and his wife Barbara of Greenfield, Tracy M. “Ace” Day of Natick, and Thomas V. Day and his wife Suzanne of Natick; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ronny; two great-grandchildren, Ariel and Alexis; and a brother, John Day and his wife Noreen of FL. He was also the brother of the late James Day and June Botteri.

A Memorial Service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Wednesday, September 25th at 1:00p.m. Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather with the family beginning at 11:30a.m.
