Alphee E. Tanguay, 89, of Bethel, ME passed away on Tuesday September 17, 2013 at the Hospice House in Auburn, ME. He was born in Gorham, NH on July 27, 1924 the son Arthur and Marie (Pelchat) Tanguay and graduated from Gorham High School in 1943. He graduated from University of New Hampshire in 1950 with his BS and in 1951 with his Masters. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was a member of the American Legion in Gorham, NH for many years. Alphee has been employed by Lederle Labs in Pearl River, NY for 36 years as a scientist in the Quality Control Division, developing tests for antibiotics and vitamins and retiring in 1987. He was also an EMT with the Nanuet, NY Volunteer Ambulance Corp and served as President of the Corp from 1977-78. Alphee also belonged to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Maine for 12 years and won their Volunteer of the Year Award. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows in Bethel, ME and the Queen of Peace Church in Ormond Beach, FL.
Family includes his wife Genesta (Atwood) Tanguay of Bethel, ME; daughters Annette Nickerson of Charlotte, NC, Susan Tanguay of Thomaston, CT and Elaine Carlevaro of Stony Point, NY; son Robert Tanguay of Marietta, GA; 16 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters Dorothy Ferrante of Gorham, NH, Irene Tieva of Tucson, AZ and Beatrice Wheeler of Berlin, NH; brothers Arthur Tanguay of Gorham, NH and Louis Tanguay of Gorham, NH; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife Beatrice (Provost) Tanguay who passed away in 1986.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 10 AM at Holy Family Church, Church St., Gorham, NH. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester, NH. Donations in his memory may be made to the Gorham EMS Association, 20 Park St., Gorham, NH, 03581. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
