Obituary

Marcel R. Girard, 90, of Kings Factory Road, Charlestown, previously of Woonsocket, died September 13, 2013 in Home and Hospice Care of RI, Providence. He was the husband of Berthe (Cournoyer) Girard, to whom he had been married for nearly sixty six years. Born in St. Nazaire, P.Q., Canada, he was the son of the late Eugene and Cecile (Cournoyer) Girard.

Marcel retired in 1984 as a Lieutenant from the Woonsocket Fire Department after a career that spanned thirty two years. He was an Army veteran of WWII, where he received a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Metal and four Service Stars after serving on the European front lines.

In addition to his wife Berthe, Marcel is survived by his son Marcel E. Girard and his wife Melanie (Thibeault) Girard of Charlestown, his daughter Jocelyn R. Girard-Landay and her husband Craig Landay of San Bernardino, CA, and his grandson Andrew Roland Girard of Charlestown.

Services, beginning with visitation from 8:30-10:30AM on Wednesday, September 18th, will be in the Fournier and Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main Street, Woonsocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial will take place in St Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Saint Katerri Tekakwitha, 84 Exeter Road, Exeter, RI 02822.
