WORCESTER-Anna E. (McCarthy) Moriarty, 80, formerly of 8 Columbus Street, died Thursday, September 9th in Blaire House of Worcester after a prolonged illness. Her husband, William T. Moriarty died in 1974. She leaves 3 sons, Dan A. Moriarty of Lebanon, NH, Sean S. Moriarty of Attleboro and Timothy J. Moriarty of Worcester, a sister, Helen Kirk of Worcester, 5 grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. 2 brothers, John and Francis McCarthy predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of John S. and Anna F. (Maloney) McCarthy, graduated from South High School and Worcester State College. Mrs. Moriarty was an elementary school teacher for 40 years and taught at Rice Square, May Street and Columbus Park schools. Her family donated the land to the Worcester Diocese for St. Andrew the Apostle Church to be built where she was a founding member, CCD teacher, choir director and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was a member of Massachusetts Teacher’s Association and National Education Association. She was an avid candlepin bowler, enjoyed taking long walks and previously taught piano and tutored students.
The funeral is Tuesday, September 14th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial is in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM the morning of the funeral.
