William "Billy" Gomes, 79, of New Bedford died Wednesday September 11, 2013 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Freetown, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Gomes) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Billy enjoyed watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and the New England Patriots.
He is survived by his siblings, James Gomes, Jr., of New Bedford, Margaret Lopes of Fall River, and Lena Barros of Carver; and nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Linda "Windie" Pires, LeRoy, Vasco, Joseph, Daniel, and Robert Gomes.
His Memorial Service will be held at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday September 21, 2013 at 10 AM, with family receiving visitors from 9-10 AM prior to the service.
