Claude Leavern Dorminey, 75, of Tifton died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Tifton. Bishop Derrell Spikes will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Kasey Bruce, Kelly Bruce, Cecil McMillian, Jim Brogdon, Herman Storey and Ken Parker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the High Priest Group of the Tifton Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Gilbert Storey, Hugh Holyoak, Doran Storey and Bobby Rowan. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Dorminey was born on July 20, 1938 in Enigma and was the son of Wilford Talmadge Dorminey and Ruby Iola McMillan Dorminey, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Cecelia Dorminey Bruce and a brother-in-law, Kenny Parker. He graduated from Berrien County High School; attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for two years and the University of Georgia for two years and did post-graduate work for one year at Mississippi State University. He was employed with The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service and worked for the cooperative extension service a total of 30 years in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Dorminey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Theissen Dorminey of Tifton; his children and their families, Cynthia Kim Dorminey of Marble Falls, Texas; Jason Claude Dorminey and wife Shannon and their children, Ryan, Ashlyn and Tyler of Elk Grove, California; Jan Denise Dorminey Heiner and husband Jared and their children, Daniel, Caroline, Lauren and Henry of Meridian, Idaho; and one sister, Carolyn Dorminey Parker of Alma.
