Obituary

Gertrude (Lapierre) Labonte, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at Willimansett East Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Emile and Rose (Denoncourt) Lapierre. Gertrude worked in the youth center in the Fairfield Mall for 8 years and also as a seamstress for over 10 years at Chicopee Undergarment before she retired. She was a communicant of the former Assumption Parish where she was also a choir member for 42 years. She was also a member of the Ladies of St Ann and a member of the Franco American Women’s Club. She was an avid bingo player and a walk volunteer at Assumption Bingo. She also enjoyed crocheting. She was known as the travel lady at the Craft Fair and she enjoyed hosting and entertaining people at her home. She is predeceased by her husband Roland O. Labonte who passed away in 1992. She leaves 3 sons, Leo-Paul Labonte and his wife Rita of St Amable, Quebec, Charles and his wife Carol of Palmer and Stephen and his wife Darlene of Chicopee; her daughter Pauline Zemrock and her husband Wayne of Chicopee; her brother Arthur Lapierre of Chicopee; 8 beloved grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 2 great grand sons. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church (104 Springfield St) at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Western Mass Elder Care 4 Hadley Mill Rd, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to the Charity of one’s choice.
