Margaret Torrey, 86

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Margaret (Arakelian) Torrey, age 86, of Mansfield passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Irving S. Torrey.
Born in North Attleboro, MA on April 1, 1927, she was a loving daughter of the late Krekor and Rose (Haytayian) Arakelian. She grew up in North Attleboro and was a graduate of North Attleboro High School.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Torrey had worked as a supervisor at the Wrentham State School for 21 years prior to retiring in 1989. She had previously been employed at the former Merkens Chocolate Co. in Mansfield.
A resident of Mansfield for 50 years, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield where she also enjoyed playing cribbage with friends. Margaret also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted children, Rosemary Burrows of South Attleboro, Joseph Florencio and his wife Joann of South Carolina, Betty Burnette of South Carolina, Sumner Torrey and his wife Theresa of Rehoboth, Richard Torrey and his wife Cindy of Foxboro and the late Antone Florencio who was married to Rosa Florencio of Texas. She was the dear sister of Ovan Arakelian of Rhode Island, Sister Helen Rosarie of Framingham and Mary Cochran. She is also survived by 7 adoring grandchildren, several great grandchildren as well as 2 nieces.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, September 16th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at 12:45 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Margaret’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Life Care Center of Attleboro Activities Fund, 969 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703 or the LaSalette Shrine, 947 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703
