Obituary

Carolyn “Dolores” Brogdon Lyon, 81, of Alapaha died Monday, September 9, 2013, at Berrien Campus of South Georgia Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Jackie Connell will officiate with burial to follow in McMillan Cemetery in Alapaha. Winston Brogdon, Wesley Williams, Chris Corkern, Tony Smith, William Brogdon and Eddie Tisby will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Lyon, Al Dunn, Myron Harper, Joe Dixon, Arnold Brogdon, Robert White, Steve Dixon, Lewellyn Roberts, J. W. Harper, Darrel Jernigan, Bob Lee and Jordan Flanders. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Lyon was born on September 17, 1931 in Berrien County and was the daughter of Eston Cleo “Bill” Brogdon and Norma McMillan Brogdon, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elder Joseph Henry Lyon; an infant daughter, Carolyn Ruth Lyon; and a special aunt, Ina McMillan Davis. She was a farmer and rancher and a retired school teacher, with her entire teaching career being in Berrien County, where she was a lifelong resident.

Mrs. Lyon is survived by several nieces and nephews in the Lyon family; Gloria Davis Lindsey and several cousins in the Brogdon family, including Winston Brogdon, who was like a son, and his wife Lori; and a special friend, Aggie Johnson, who was like family.
