Obituary

Richard F. "Dick" Trainor, Sr. of Worcester died September 7th, 2013, three days before his 88th birthday, at the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence surrounded by his loving family after a very brief illness.

Dick was born in Worcester, son of Arthur and Anastasia (Collins) Trainor. He was a graduate of the former Commerce High School. He served in WWII and flew over 20 missions as a B-24 tail-gunner in the 15th Air Force stationed in Italy.
He worked 42 years with New England Telephone and NYNEX and retired in1988. Dick is survived by the family he devoted his life to and who cherished him: he leaves his beloved wife Helen F. (Cashman) Trainor, with whom he shared 66 years of a joyfilled marriage. He leaves his son Reverend Richard F. Trainor, Pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish in Fitchburg, his daughter Ann Hedge and her husband Jack, his son William Trainor and his wife Kathy, his daughter Jean Sullivan and her husband Tim, all of Worcester. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, William, Magdalen, Nell, and Camille Trainor, Rachael, Neal, and Maeve Sullivan, Jennifer Roche and her husband Adam, and Timothy Hedge and his wife Krissy; and three great-grandchildren, John and Megan Roche and Mason Hedge. He also leaves his sister, A. Patricia Bazinet of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Rita Hay and brother Robert Trainor.

Dick was a longtime parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle and a member of its Men's Club. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the American Legion Tatnuck Post 288. As a member of the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group Veterans Association, he and his wife were able to travel around the country to attend annual reunions. He was a former member of the Frohsinn Club, Shrewsbury. He loved going to games and events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed playing tennis for many years. He recently attended the rededication of the Newton Square WWII memorial which lists his name along with so many of his boyhood chums from that neighborhood.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 10th in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. The funeral Mass of the Resurrection is Wednesday, September 11th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main Street. His son, Father Richard Trainor will be the principal celebrant. The Rite of Christian Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
