Pembroke – Joseph M. Jara, 94 died September 4 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Maria (Ariza) Jara.
Born and raised in Costa Rica he was the son of the late Jose and Adelina (Periera) Jara.
Joseph moved to the United States in 1966, living first in East Boston, then Chelsea and later moving to Holbrook for six years before finally settling with his daughter in Pembroke.
Before his retirement he had worked for several years as a self-employed barber, in and around the Boston area.
He is survived by his daughters Nuria E. Wellemeyer and her husband Mark of Pembroke and Maria M. Wilde and her husband Russell of Holbrook, his sister Mira (Jara) Fondavilla of CA, his grandchildren Jonathan, Jason and James Wellemeyer, Scott and Jeffrey Wilde, and Diana Ferrini. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Alexandra Flora and Jake, Ethan and Hanna Wilde, also Phaedra, Eric and Mia-Luna Ferrini.
His funeral service will be held Monday September 9 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Sunday September 8 from 5-7 PM.
