Katherine A. Tremblay, 80, died Monday, September 2, 2013 following a period of declining health.
Born in Grenada, Mississippi on January 31, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Tuminello) Messina. She was raised and educated in Grenada and attended nursing school in Memphis, TN. She moved to Massachusetts in the 1950s, settling in Danvers in 1961.
For many years she was employed as a waitress at the former Sword & Shield in North Beverly, and as a lifeguard at the Beverly YMCA.
She was an avid walker, bicyclist, and swimmer who enjoyed the companionship of her dog Brandy and cats Spooky and Gizmo.
She is survived by a devoted son, M. Douglas Tyrell of Peabody, her siblings, Rev. Samuel Messina and Teresa Cemosak of MS, Joseph Messina and Mary Castro of FL, and Rosie Vale of IL, several nieces and nephews, and two dear friends, Norma Harrell and Kate Oyole.
As requested, funeral services are private and there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
