Obituary

Douglas Paul Daigler, of Hingham, known for his optimistic outlook and warm affectionate sense of humor, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013.
Doug began working at Louis Boston while a student at Northeastern University (’72). Doug later worked for Talbots and then for Joseph Abboud in Boston. He spent the last 18 years of his career as Senior Product Manager and Designer for National Accounts at Aramark where he designed work wear and uniform wardrobes for Fortune 500 companies. Combining talent with his infectious enthusiasm, Doug earned several national awards for his innovative designs that combined function and style.
Born in 1950 and growing up outside of Buffalo, NY, Doug attended St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. Doug is a member of their Athletic Hall of Fame, an honor earned for his successes while rowing crew.
Doug married Kerry Walker in 1982. They moved from Boston to Hingham in 1984 and had three children: Garret played hockey and baseball for the Harbormen (’03) and later attended St. Anslem’s College (’08) in Manchester, NH where he played varsity hockey. He now lives in South Boston and works in Hingham. Remy played hockey for the Harborwomen (’10) and currently attends the University of New Hampshire where she studies Psychology. Their son Austin passed away in 1990 after suffering a bacterial infection.
“Dancing with Doug”, organized by friends and co-workers last summer, epitomized Doug’s zest for life, his abounding love for his family, his broad network of good friends for which he had deep appreciation and, of course, the fact that he loved to dance.
Doug battled with Squamous Cell Cancer of the Oropharynx for over two and one-half years. Throughout the battle, he maintained an enthusiastic and optimistic outlook using humor as medicine for the soul while receiving both experimental and traditional treatments at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Doug’s warmth, enthusiasm and generous spirit live on in all those that had the privilege to know him. He died at home surrounded by his family who, following his lead, mixed humor, hospitality and compassion in caring for him during his final days. The caregivers from Norwell VNA Hospice wonderfully supported Doug and his family. He was 63.
