Minerva Fernandez, 64, of Harrisville, formerly of Woonsocket, died Wednesday afternoon at Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield.
Born in Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Joaquin and Andrea (Santiago) Castro. Minerva was raised in Puerto Rico and came to the United States as a teenager. She lived in Pennsylvania and Waltham, MA and had been a resident of Woonsocket for many years before moving to Harrisville several years ago.
Mrs. Fernandez was employed in the local textile industry prior to retiring.
Minerva was dedicated to being a mother and cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons Jose Fernandez, and his wife Rae-Ann, of Lincoln and Johnny Fernandez, and his wife Rachel of Burrillville, two daughters Migdalia Alvarez, and her husband David, of Johnston and Nitza Duplessis, and her husband David, of Harrisville. Minerva was one of 18 siblings and was predeceased by several of them with the remainder living in Puerto Rico. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private.
