Barbara A. Tarr, 83, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Essex Park in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Frank S. Tarr.
Born in Danvers on March 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (O’Brien) Karonis. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1948 and the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing.
She began her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at Beverly Hospital, and later worked for the VNA before her time at the former Cedar Glen Nursing Home, where she retired as Director of Nursing.
An avid reader and golfer, she was a member of the Wenham Country Club. She was a past president of the Catholic Mr. & Mrs. Club of Danvers and a member of the Danvers Garden Club.
She leaves two children, Wayne Tarr and his wife Anne of Danvers and Leslie Mitting and her husband Robert of Bloomington, IN, a brother, Joseph Karonis and his wife Annette of NH, five grandchildren, Shannon Moore, Meredith Southern, Daniel Tarr, Rachel Keohane, and Sarah Tarr, three great-grandchildren, Melanie, Daphne, and Kailyn, and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 9AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
