Obituary

Rev. George J. Dufour, 73, retired pastor of Ste. Anne Parish in Salem, MA, passed away Wednesday morning, August 28, 2013 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital, after 21 years of dedication.

Born in Madawaska, Maine, and raised in Biddeford, ME, Connecticut and Lawrence, MA he was the son of the late Joseph and Elise (Babineau) Dufour. He attended Merrimack College for 2 years prior to entering St. John Seminary. Graduating in 1970, Father George was ordained in May of that year and first served at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Newton. He later served at St. Aidan Parish in Brookline and Immaculate Conception Parish in Winchester.

One never had to second guess his presence, as Father George was such a 'people person'. He had a unique and infectious laugh. His message was a simple one: We believe in a loving God who is with us in the good times of life and in the not so good times of life. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by two sisters, Cecile A. Berthold and her husband Arthur of Salem, NH, Therese M. LaRoche of Saco, ME as well as all his 'favorite' nieces and nephews and his entire Ste. Anne Parish family. He was predeceased by his brother, Leo Dufour.

Relatives and friends are invited to his concelebrated funeral mass on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. in Ste. Anne Church. Burial will be private.
