Plymouth – David V. Sheehy, Sr. 81, formerly of Weymouth and Whitman, died Thursday August 29 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Mary Anne (Kjelgaard) Sheehy.
Born and raised in Weymouth, where he resided until 1990, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Mildred M. (Cashman) Sheehy and a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1951. He furthered his education graduating from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1955.
He had worked as Claims Manager in the Boston office of Home Insurance, retiring after 20 years of service.
Before his move to Plymouth in 2002, David had been a resident of Whitman for over 11 years and a longtime communicant of the Holy Ghost Church.
In addition to his wife Mary Anne, he is survived by his loving children, David V. Sheehy, Jr. of Kingston, Anne M. D’Angelo of Plymouth, Virginia M. Larochelle of Worcester, Mary P. Estano of Plymouth and Susan M. O’Sullivan of Abington, his brothers John W. Sheehy of Mashpee and Daniel T. Sheehy of Cohasset. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dr. Alfred M. Sheehy.
His funeral service will be held Saturday August 31 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will take place Tuesday September 3 at 10 AM in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Friday August 30 from 5-9 PM.
