Obituary

AGAWAM – Albert J. Enos, 94, a longtime resident of Agawam was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born at home on Kirkland Avenue in Ludlow on Independence Day, July 4, 1919, a beloved son of the late Manuel and Frances Lena Enos. He was raised in Ludlow, graduated from local schools and lived in Ludlow for many years. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II with Battery C, 495th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion and attained the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He served in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he furthered his education, attended college in Springfield, received his degree and was a longtime teacher for the Springfield School Department at the Gerena School in the North End section of Springfield. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers, George Enos who was Called Home on September 8, 1939 and Edward Enos who was Called Home on November 30, 1949. He leaves his several cousins and friends. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, August 31, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His burial with Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, August 31, 2013 from 8 am to 9:30 a.m. before the Mass. His family has requested that memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children (Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
