James E. Amirault age 85 of Stoughton passed away at home August 23rd after a long illness. Born in East Boston, he was raised and attended high school in Providence. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s in American Literature from Boston University and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Putnam Investments for many years before retiring in 1992. He has lived in Stoughton for the last 28 years and previously lived in New York and San Francisco. Jim was the spouse of Steve Henneberry for 43 years and legal spouse for nine years. Jim lived life with dignity. His faith was very important to him. When living in California he was very active at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales in Oakland. He was the co-chair of the elderly task force and chaired and organized the dinners for the poor and shut-ins at Thanksgiving and Christmas. In his retirement he took a Gerontology Course at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a Chaplaincy Training program at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where he later volunteered as a Chaplin.
Family was very important to Jim. He is survived by his in-laws Kenard & Margaret Dorff, Mike & Ellen Brock, John & Bridget O’Connell, Michael & Solana Henneberry, and Ernie & Joan Whitaker. Also survived by several nieces & nephews and numerous cousins. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Church 18 Belvidere St. Boston, on Thursday, Sept 5th at 11:00 am. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church 1 hour prior to the mass from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial at the VA National Cemetery, Bourne Friday morning at 11:30. Army Veteran Korean War.
