Obituary

Steve G. Gabas passed away peacefully on August 26th at home surrounded by his family. His wife Athena (Inou) Christy Gabas died in 1996. He was born in Albania (Iliar, Permet) son of Gregory and Garifola (Loto) Gabas. He is survived by his children Ligor Gaba of Worcester, Charles Christy of Fitchburg, Dimitri Christy of Los Angeles CA, Liria Qirjazi of Pogradec Albania, and Aravella Hakani of Worcester, 21 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Andrew Christy. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Steve lead a full and active life; he served in the Albanian Army in 1932. In 1957, he moved to the United States and worked as a waiter at the Sheraton Hotel, Boston and then as a baker at Table Talk Pie Co. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he served on the board of the Parish Council. He was also a proud member of AHEPA Society of Worcester, as well active in the Elm Park Neighborhood Watch.
Calling hours are Thursday August 29th, 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue Worcester. Funeral Service will take place at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester on Friday August 30th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
