Obituary

Robert N. “Bobby” Whitley, 74, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Whitley was born on September 13, 1938, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late James Albert and Myrtice Paulk Whitley. He was a 1957 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played football, being an All-State End his junior and senior years. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a farmer and a retired salesman for G&L Steel and Elixir. He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Betty Nell Whitley of Irwin County; brothers: Carlton (Joann) Whitley, Marvin Whitley, and Billy Whitley, all of Irwin County; sister: Dorothy Kelly of Irwin County; nephews: Joey Whitley and Stanley Whitley of Irwin County, and Mike Floyd of Athens; several great nephews; sister-in-law: Betty Jean Gaines Floyd of Harlem; and his poodle: Molli Anna.
