Betty A. Johnston, 79, of Yulee, FL passed away Saturday evening, August 24, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL.
She was born January 16, 1934 in Birmingham, AL and moved to Yulee 23 years ago from Valdosta, GA.
Betty was a member of Yulee Baptist Church and was a devoted wife and mother. She dearly loved her children and loved visiting her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Harry Hines, Sr. and her parents, R. R. Gay and Myrtice Gay.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Jim Johnston of Yulee, FL; sons, Harry Hines, Jr. (Lou-Beth) of Brunswick, GA and Timothy Hines (Beth) of Valdosta, GA; daughters, Cheryl Newberry (Tommy) of Colquitt, GA, Kay New (Andy) of Venice, FL and Kimberly Smith of Quitman, GA; brother, Russell Gay of Yulee, FL and sister, Barbara Horton of Mayo, FL; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, at Yulee Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Sides officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Yulee Baptist Church Building Fund.
