Obituary

OWEN, Madeline Ann (Joseph) passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2013 in Needham, MA. Madeline was born in Jewett City, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Joseph, and the sister of the late Nebbie Joseph and the late Charles Joseph, Jr.

She has been a resident of Needham, Massachusetts, since 1964. Prior to her marriage she owned and operated a hair salon in Jewett City. Madeline volunteered for many years in the Traveling Meals program and was a founding board member of the Friends of the Needham Board of Health and Traveling Meals Program. She was a past president and director of the Deaconess-Glover Hospital Aid Association and also served as president of St Joseph's Guild. She had been a member of the Needham Pool and Racquet Club, the Needham Postcomers Club and an active member of Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church in Jamaica Plain.

She leaves her husband of 57 years, Dr. Jerald Owen, two daughters, Deirdre Mailing of Medway and Mary Nader and her husband Assad of Foxborough; two sons, Jerald Owen, Jr (Jay) and his wife Anne-Marie of Needham and Dr. Christopher Owen and his wife Marie of Sherborn; and nine wonderful grandchildren: David Mailing; Kelly, Peter and Elizabeth Owen; Danielle, Paul, Juliana and Catherine Nader and Yasmine Owen. Madeline leaves her sisters-in-law Charlotte Geer Joseph and Mary Perkowski Joseph, six nieces and nephews and many loving and loved cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Juanita Parkinson Joseph and son-in-law Donald Mailing.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. NEEDHAM, Wednesday, August 28 at 8:45 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church, 61 Rockwood St. Jamaica Plain at 10 am.  Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 27 from 4-8 pm. Private interment St. John Cemetery, Gardner.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Madeline’s memory to the Friends of the Needham Board of Health and Traveling Meals Program, 1471 Highland Ave. Needham, MA 02492 or to the Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon Church.
