Cecile Y. (Demeule) Marquis, 91 of Beverly, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Marquis.
Born and raised in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Laura (Dumas) Demeule. Married to Arthur at 17 years of age, the couple began their family in Salem and in 1961 they moved to New Hampshire. Cecile devoted most of her time creating a nurturing home for her young family. Following the untimely death of her husband in 1965, Cecile returned to Salem and worked in the cafeteria at Salem State College. She later worked for Salem Laundry Co. until her retirement.
Cecile was an excellent homemaker and cook, and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was an avid bingo and scratch ticket fan.
She is survived by three daughters, Cecile L. Robinson of Beverly, MA, Pauline B. Marston and her husband Bill of Northwood, NH, Jeannette M. Hamilton and her husband Robert D. of Beverly, MA, a son Richard A. Marquis and his wife L. Marily of Deerfield, NH, a brother, Wilfred DeMeule and his wife Rita of Salem, MA. She also leaves 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Arthur L. Marquis, two sisters and two brothers.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Monday, August 26, 2013, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA, to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA.
