LAWRENCE – Mario N. Andrade, 67 of Lawrence, MA passed away Tuesday August 20, 2013 at the Holden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Faial Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria (Dasilva) Andrade. He was a resident of Lawrence, graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1964 and also Northern Essex Community College. Mario served in the U.S. Navy and was later assigned to the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War receiving the National defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with the Marine Corps. Combat Insignia and one Bronze Star Combat Action Ribbon. For 37 years he was employed with Malden Mills in Lawrence and attended St. Patrick’s Parish also in Lawrence.
Mario’s family was the love of his life, his second love was soccer. He was an avid player and coach, Mario later went on to referee the game both in the youth and high school leagues.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Carol ( Medina) Andrade of Lawrence and is survived by his son and daughter, Mario J. Andrade and his wife Candace of North Kingstown, RI and Rebecca Heggarty and her husband John of Methuen, MA.
Mario also leaves his brothers and sisters, Maria Helena Micieli and her husband Joseph of San Jose, CA, Jose Andrade and his wife Claire of Lawrence, MA, Manuel Andrade and his wife Arlinda of Methuen, MA, Antonio De Andrade and his wife Joyce of Byfield, MA, Maria Ema Crabb and her husband Robert of Morgan Hill, CA, Maria Manuela Barcelos of Methuen, MA, Helena Mederios and her husband Clemente of Portugal, Augusto Andrade and his wife Paula of Methuen and Maria Elisia Andrade also of Methuen, MA
Five grandchildren, Gabrielle and Mason Andrade, Isabelle and Jack Heggarty and Madison Hickingbottom and many nieces and nephews.
Mario was predeceased by his sister Maria Odelia Amaral and two brothers, Francisco and Emidio

Visiting hours for family and friends will be Sunday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lowell, MA.
