MEDFORD: Edward Patrick Farren, 76, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Lancaster after a brief illness.
Born in Chelsea on August 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward P. and Eileen (McDaniel) Farren. He was a graduate of Somerville High School. He also graduated from Suffolk University with a Bachelors Degree in Government and an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.
Edward served as the Chief of Police and Fiscal Plant Director for Suffolk University for thirteen years before retiring in 1991. He was also once employed as the Security Manager for Gilchrist Department Store and as a Police Officer at Tufts University.
An avid reader, he enjoyed World War II history, traveling to Europe and loved all animals.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Marie Farren of Melrose, two sons, Mark Edward Farren and his wife, Lauren of Nashua, NH and Michael David Farren of Malden; four grandchildren, Ryan Nathaniel Nazworth and Cameron Mark Nazworth both of Vero Beach, FL and Kayla Marie Farren and Kelsi Elizabeth Farren both of Nashua, NH; a brother, George Robert Farren of Stoneham; a sister, Mariellen Snyder of Fairfax, VA; two sisters-in-law, Betty Rawson of Medford and Kathleen Kelly of Leverett; dear friend, Carol Horan of Shirley and his best friend, David Finucane of Maynard. He was also predeceased by his former spouse, Marie F. Farren.
His funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, August 27th in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway W., Medford at 10 a.m. Visiting hours were held on Monday in the Beals-Geake Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford from 4 – 7 p.m. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Interment was held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham.
