Obituary

George J. Walker, Jr., 79, of Derry, NH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at his son’s home in Derry. He was born on July 13, 1934 in Somerville, MA, a son of the late Annabelle (McRae) and George J. Walker Sr. Mr. Walker proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid sports fan, especially all the Boston and New England teams. Most of all Papa, as he was known to his grandchildren and grampy by his great-grandson, cherished the time he spent with all of them. He lived for those moments with his family.
He is survived by two sons, George J. Walker III and his wife Julie of Derry, and Robert D. Walker and his wife Jean, of Marlboro, MA; four grandchildren, George J. Walker IV, Jacqueline Walker, Robert Walker Jr., and Connor Walker; one great grandson Mason Joseph, one brother, Alexander Walker and his wife Ellynn of Plymouth, MA, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Maryellen (Donovan) Walker in 1999, as well as 11 of his siblings.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 2 – 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, August 26th at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. Burial followed at 12:30pm in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 70 Medford Street, Arlington, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 25 Nashua Road, Building E, Suite 3, Londonderry, NH 03053.
