Virginia R. Whitworth Jones, 84, of Tifton died Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013, at the Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. Rev. Lee McMath and Rev. Jimmie Hinson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday school class at the Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Jones will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Jones was born on May 5, 1929 in Tift County and was the daughter of L. E. Whitworth and Ruby Dickens Whitworth, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Jones; one daughter, Laura Jones; one brother, Earl Whitworth; and one sister, Lilly Cranford. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. She had lived in Tifton all of her life.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Nazalene Jones and David and Valerie Jones, all of Tifton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Jimmy Hightower of Tifton, Joanna and Gene Lawson of Lenox and Norma and Robbie Ramsey of Byron; one brother, Ray Whitworth of High Falls; two sisters, Annette Freeman of Griffin and Doris Mitchell of Great Bend, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
