New Bedford – Robert “Bob” Alves, Jr. of New Bedford, age 46, passed away on Thursday August 1, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital due to complications from pneumonia. He was born in New Bedford, a son of Susan (Murray) Charest of New Bedford and Robert Alves Sr. of Bourne. Bob was a scalloper on the waterfront for 25 years and was a crew member on the George’s Bank. He was also a member of the Panther’s Club and Punta Delgada and a big fan of the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots.
His surviving family includes his son Matthew Martins husband of Tenley and their soon to be daughter of Acushnet, his daughter Paige Marie Alves of New Bedford, his aforementioned mother and father, his stepmother Leslie Alves of Bourne, his brothers Steven Alves, husband of Sherry of Dighton, MA and Corbin R. Alves of Bourne, his companion Pamela Cerrud of New Bedford, his uncle Brian Murray of New Bedford, his nephew Steven P. Alves II of Dover, NH and his best friend, Sneakers.
In accordance with his wishes, Bob was cremated and his ashes will be scattered at sea. Services for Mr. Alves will be Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Seaman’s Bethel in New Bedford beginning at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
