Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marie M. “Marge” (Boisvert) Wickstrom, 90, of the Valley View Apartments in the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Friday, August 9, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on August 21, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Lorenzo and Antoinette (Crepeau) Boisvert. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1940 from Cathedral High School and lived in the city for many years. She later moved to South Hadley and lived there for many years before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee around 1998. She was employed for over 15 years as a Professional Business Women’s Manager at the former Beneficial Financial Company in Holyoke and later worked for over 25 years as a bookkeeper for the South Hadley Travel Company. Active in her faith, Marge was a longtime communicant at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the parish council and a past president and member of the Rosary Altar Society. Active in the communities of South Hadley and Chicopee, Marge volunteered her time at the Marion Center, Providence Hospital and Holyoke Hospital, all in Holyoke, the Ecumenical Vacation Bible School in South Hadley, the Chicopee Senior Center where she was named an outstanding volunteer in 2000 and again in 2006, and the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus where her late husband, Paul, was a Past Grand Knight. She was a 30 year member of the North American Family Campers Association, a Past President of the Pioneer Valley Campers Association Chapter 8 and a chairperson of the Annual Springfield Camping and Outdoor Show. Marge was also a former Pioneer Valley Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was currently a daily communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she served her parish for many years as a Senior Altar Server for Funeral Liturgies. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Paul L. Wickstrom who was Called Home on January 28, 1986. They were married on February 26, 1945 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church Rectory in Springfield and were blessed with over 41 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving children, Karen M. Gates and her husband, Raymond, of Westfield, and Alan J. Wickstrom and his wife, Christine, of West Boylston, MA; her four cherished grandchildren, Kristin Matthew Gates and his wife, Sharon, Kevin Gates, Adam Wickstrom and his wife, Kristin, and Alan J. Wickstrom, Jr. and his fiancée, Kim; her five cherished great-grandchildren, Kendall, Corrine and Olivia Gates, Colby Gates and Abigail Wickstrom; her loving sister and best friend, Louise A. Asselin of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Marge will be watching from the Eternal City of Heaven the birth of a great-grandson who will be born this coming September. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, George Boisvert; and her dear brother-in-law, Arthur A. Asselin who was Called Home in 1996. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, August 12, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to the Chicopee Council on Aging Building Fund, 7 Valley View Court, Chicopee, MA 01020.
