GLOUCESTER: Shirley M. (Pinkham) Young, 88, died Thursday, August 8, 2013 in the Beverly Hospital surrounded by her loving family, including her siblings from Maine. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Young, Sr. who died in 1991.
Born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on June 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Gerald E. Pinkham, Sr. and Hazel E. (Clifford) Pinkham. She had resided in Boothbay Harbor for many years before moving to Gloucester in 1950.
Shirley loved to take rides with her family around the back shore of Gloucester and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce L. Flygare and her husband, William Flygare, Jr. and Sandra J. Riffelmacher and her husband, David Riffelmacher: three sons; Craig R. Young and his wife, Nancy, Robert J. Young, Jr. and his wife Donna and Jeffery L. Young and his companion, Diane Tuomivirta all of Gloucester; fourteen grandchildren, William Flygare, III and his wife, Rubina, Amy Gaipo and her husband, Michael, Danielle Flygare, Jason Williams and his wife, Karen, Jennifer Williams, Sherri Mackey and her husband, Kevin, Robert Young, III, Jody Young, Darlene Haight and her husband, David, James Young, Craig Young, Jr. and his wife, Kaylee, Joseph Young, Samantha Young and Brian Young; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Geraldine Blake, Janet Peters, Roberta Chubbuck and her husband, Daniel, Sandra Barter and Dilys Tedford; three brothers, Gary Pinkham and his wife, Connie, Larry Pinkham and Darryl Pinkham and his wife, Beth; her beloved cat, “Sam” and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Jamie Williams, a sister, Beverly Thibodeau and four brothers, Raymond Pinkham, Gerald Pinkham, Jr., Roger Pinkham and Allan Pinkham.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday in the Cape Ann Bible Church, Thompson St., (off Concord St.) Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
