Wade Doolin, age 89, died Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS. He was born May 2, 1924 in Melrose, AR to the late Jesse Franklin and Lillie Newman Doolin. Wade was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman during the battles at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, earning the EAMETO Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was self-employed as a barber until his retirement in 2010 and enjoyed fishing, reading and baseball, playing church league softball well into his 60’s. Wade was a faithful and active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school for over 30 years, drove the church bus, played “Santa’s Helper” each Christmas, making stockings and filling them for all the children, and visited the nursing home once a month for years to cut the residents’ hair. Wade dearly loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church in Water Valley with Bro. James Edwards and Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery with Bobby Murphree, Jim Gholson, Bud McCluskey, Chris McCluskey, Bill Finch and Joel Rogers serving as pallbearers.
Wade is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Louise Kelly “Sue” Doolin of Water Valley, MS; his daughter, Linda Doolin of Broken Arrow, OK; his son, Robert Doolin (Lowedia) of Water Valley, MS; and his sister, Edna Lynn Harmon of Water Valley, MS.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Sandavol, Lina Morris and Edith Armes.
